New Trade Show For Sustainable Manufacturing to Launch in Anaheim Next Year

February 23, 2024

B2B event producer, publisher and digital media business for the advanced manufacturing industry, Informa Markets Engineering, is launching a new event dedicated to showcasing the latest technologies, innovations and thought leadership for moving sustainable manufacturing processes forward.

Set for Feb. 4-5, 2025, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif., Sustainable Manufacturing Expo will focus on the technologies and innovations that are mitigating carbon footprint, increasing energy conservation and driving operational efficiencies and productivity in manufacturing, from product design to waste reduction.

The show’s expo is expected to draw more than 150 exhibitors offering the latest solutions, including digital twin technology, biomaterials, IOT sensors, automation, cobots (collaborative robots), edge AI and cloud computing technology, prototyping and lifecycle packaging. Thought leadership and educational content will focus on regulatory reporting guidance, case studies examining success in implementation, product demos and expert insights from leading industry authorities in renewable and sustainable manufacturing.

“Manufacturers seek guidance and expertise now more than ever to incorporate sustainable processes into all areas of their operations and may lack awareness of the tools and resources available to them,” explained Melissa Magestro, vice president at Informa Markets Engineering and founder of Sustainable Manufacturing Expo.

She continued, “Our goal launching this dedicated event addressing sustainable manufacturing is to provide leaders and companies with the platform to successfully discover, adopt and responsibly integrate initiatives for both long- and short-term needs that ultimately drive bottom line revenue with efficiencies.”

Capturing a Rapidly Growing Market

With sustainable manufacturing steadily becoming one of the top emerging technologies shaping the industry, spurred on by government regulations and reporting directives, investors are demanding Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) information to make decisions, along with consumers who are prioritizing environmental considerations that are thus influencing their brand decisions and purchasing behaviors.

Additionally, with the European Union’s (EU) Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive in effect and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Climate Disclosure Rules expected to move forward in 2025, now is the time for manufacturers to act on planned sustainability initiatives, according to Informa Markets Engineering officials.

“Companies need data to effectively implement changes,” said Alex West, senior principal analyst, government and manufacturing, Omdia Group, the global analyst and advisory division of Informa Tech. “Not only are they going to have to publicly report their performance, but a data-led approach will be the foundation for any sustainable transition.”

He continued, “Being able to monitor and even simulate the impact of changes to the business, across different business functions, and to the bottom line will only be achievable when you have data to help understand the short- and long-term implications.”

He added that as businesses move deeper into efforts to meet ESG goals, support in navigating the future of manufacturing is necessary. As the pressures to introduce or meet ESG targets grow, the price point of sustainable operations will continue to become increasingly advantageous.

Aligning With Manufacturer Needs

“Sustainability has become an industry imperative as companies seek to not only meet ESG compliance standards but also to create and increase operational efficiencies across their business units,” explained Tom O’Reilly, vice president of sustainability, Rockwell Automation and advisory board member for Sustainable Manufacturing Expo.

He continued, “Data is a fundamental element of embracing sustainable manufacturing, as it allows the leaders across these companies to better champion environmental initiatives by taking a holistic view of operations while also understanding executional considerations. We look forward to partnering with Informa Markets to bring the goals of the Sustainable Manufacturing Expo to fruition.”

We caught up with Magestro to get an exclusive inside look at Sustainable Manufacturing Expo. Here’s our Q&A with Magestro.

Who will be running the show?

Informa Market’s Engineering, the leading B2B event producer, publisher and digital media business for the world’s $3-trillion advanced, technology-based manufacturing industry is the show’s organizer. The event will be led by myself as the founder, backed by a dedicated board of advisors and informants to help shape and evolve the future of the sustainable manufacturing industry.

Why produce a show for this market and why now?

We reviewed the current landscape across the U.S. and EU and recognized that North American manufacturers needed guidance for developing and implementing sustainability processes within their own facilities. The launch comes at a time when companies are reassessing business models to improve efficiencies ultimately in bottom line revenue, reduce waste of costly energy, in addition to evolving legislation from global regulators to report ESG compliance and consumers who are increasingly prioritizing sustainability in purchasing decisions and brand sentiment.

Why choose Anaheim for the launch?

California is the leading hub for manufacturing across the U.S. and is pioneering national standards for climate regulation. Manufacturers in California understand how to accelerate sustainability actions and can pave the way for others across North America to realize the cost benefits and learnings in their process.

We also host our leading manufacturing event, IME West, in Anaheim annually in February, which has provided insight from our attendees into how the market will benefit from this additional specialized forum as a resource. Through extensive feedback and research, Anaheim was the clear home to launch the Sustainable Manufacturing Expo.

Who will be the show’s partners?

We are currently working closely with Omdia Group and our board of advisors that include senior executives from Rockwell Automation and other leading manufacturing suppliers to ensure that the show’s agenda is aligned with the most pressing sustainability issues and topics. We are also working with several leading trade associations and media partners and will announce them at a later date.

What other shows are in Informa Markets’ Engineering portfolio?

Informa Market’s Engineering portfolio is continuously growing and expanding as we see amplified success in events like IME West, IME South, The Battery Show with iterations in Europe, North America and India, DesignCon, BioMEDevice across both coasts in Boston and Silicon Valley, Powder & Bulk Solids (PBS) in Rosemont, Ill. with a new conference launching this year in Houston, as well as Advanced Manufacturing (ADM) in Minneapolis, Montréal and Toronto.
